History TAG Heuer
In 1860 Edouard Heuer founded his watch company. A few years later, in 1869, Heuer received a patent for its first crown windup mechanism for pocket watches. Heuer extended its collection of watches further and further. In 1889 the organization Heuer won even a silver medal for her collection of pocket watches. Heuer continued with the development for the watches. This resulted in a patent the the company acquired for the development for its "Time of Trip". The first clock fitted into a dashboard. A few years later in 1914 Heuer introduced its first wrist watches. These watches contained the famous rewind crown that was fitted onto the watch case at the 12 hours position. The years after even further market introductions followed. As well for the watches as for clocks that were fitted into the dashboards. These dashboard clockworks, like the Autavia were placed into to dashboards for the cars but also into the aircrafts. At the beginning of the fifties, there were connections with the American company Abercrombie & Fitch. For this retailer Heuer produced the Seafarer watches and Auto-Graph watch.
Motor sport and planes
The watches and clocks from Heuer were very popular in motorsports. Both the professionals and to the amateur racers liked the watch. In 1963 Heuer introduced its Heuer Carrera model. This clock was designed by Jack Heuer. During this time, the clocks of Heuer usually were provided with inside works made by Valjoux. Especially the 72 Valjoux movement was legendary. With the acquisition of Leonidas in 1960, Heuer acquired also the designs of the Bundeswehr chronograph. These were mainly used by the German army and made use of the so-called "fly back" properties. At the end of sixties Heuer established a partnership with the watch brands Breitling and Hamilton Watch Company. In this partnership, the first automatic clocks were introduced.Origin of the TAG Heuer brand
The Tag Heuer brand was defined much later in time. The brand TAG Heuer has been established following the acquisition of the watch maker TAG (Technique d'Avant Garde) by Heuer. This acquisition took place in 1985. TAG was especially known for its high-tech technology, such as ceramic turbo charges used in Formula 1. Together, the organization was modernized and the watch brand TAG Heuer was placed on the map. Now it is one of the largest Swiss watch brands. But in 1999, this new TAG Heuer organization was acquired by the larger company LVMH. But after this acquiistion the watch brand kept its name TAG Heuer.
